FAQ

Will my child still have access along Dunford Way to and from school?
YES! Access to and from school will be maintained at either side of the farm.

Can I still walk/run/walk my dog on this property?
YES, sometimes. The farm is designed to be a community open space, with the main gate leading to the farm stand open from 7:30am to sunset. However, the prescribed paths circulating the farm and orchards will only be open to the public when school groups are not on the farm. This is to ensure the safety of the students visiting the farm. When the paths are open, you will be welcome to walk through the farm. Dogs on leashes are also welcome.

Will there be lots of noise, dust, or bad smells?
A well-managed organic farm is free of dust and smell. We plan to be a good neighbor in every sense possible. We will run a small tractor, but will limit its use from the hours of 10am to 4pm .

Will the farm create a lot of traffic?
Overall, we believe the traffic along Dunford Way will decrease due to the farm’s presence because the field will no longer be accessible to large sports groups. The only traffic we will have will be our customer and the occasional carpool group of students visiting the farm, with a limit of one field trip per day.

You’re a nonprofit. What will you do if you have excess revenue?
While it’s highly unlikely that our profits will ever exceed our expenses, in this rare and happy instance we would use those funds to provide more at-cost produce to the school and/or have more low-cost produce shares for the community.

What will kids learn from a farm?
Everything! Farms can bring kids closer to nature, expose them to fresh healthy food, and teach them about science, math, the environment, and nutrition. Please see our education page for more details.

When will you start holding classes?

We plan to hold our first farm-based classes in Fall 2008.

What if the school needs the land back?
The only instance in which Peterson would need more land is if it were to revert back to a high school. While demographics show this is unlikely, the school district has the right to reclaim the land at any time with 2 years’ notice.
